Obituary of Charles Raymond Ables

Charles Raymond Ables, 75, of Rayville, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at home in Rayville. Visitation will be 10-11:30a, Friday, October 16, 2020 at Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs. The funeral will follow at 11:30a, followed by burial at Hillcrest Cemetery. Charles was born April 23, 1945, in Kearney, MO. He is the son of the late Dave and the late Martha (Ackerman) Ables. He married Brenda Carol Harris on January 29, 1966 at Excelsior Springs, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Carol (Harris) Ables on September 7, 2003. Charles was an expert carpenter who built houses in the area, including his own. He enjoyed hunting, particularly squirrel, and fishing - he knew the local lakes very well. He was a fan of his children's baseball teams, often driving the boys to their regional baseball tournaments. He loved spending time with his grandkids and attending their birthday parties. Charles was thrilled to meet his great-grandchildren. He loved watching the grandkids in their baseball and football games, dance recitals, basketball games, and all their musical programs. He loved spending time with his grandkids. And no trip to Liberty was complete without a visit to his favorite restaurant, Long John Silvers. He is survived by two daughters: Vickie (Jerry) Sanborn and Peggy Ables; two sons: Jeff Ables and Scott Ables; six grandchildren: Nick Sanborn, Brittany (Jeremy) Edwards, Amber Ables, Jenna (Austin) Storts, Cheyenne Ables, Celine Ables; four great-grandchildren: Talan Sanborn, Beau Sanborn, Aiden Edwards and Diego Gonzalez-Ables; four sisters: Merle Ann Horne, Rebecca (Joe) Steckbauch, Janis (Mitch) Gyles, and Paula Cummins; and one brother: Stanley Ables. In addition to his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Steven Dale Ables and Gerald Ables, and his sister, Lola Sedgwick.
