Obituary of John Joseph Walton

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John “Jackie” Joseph Walton Jr was born in Kansas City, KS on May 15th, 1967, to Patricia and John Walton Sr. John’s parents would divorce shortly after John was born. John’s mother would remarry, and John would grow up with Henry Ray as his father. John was the third child to Patricia and would go on to have three more younger siblings. John graduated from Washington High School in Kansas City, KS. After high school, John joined the U.S. Army. It was during basic training that John first experienced issues with his lungs and received a medical discharge from the military. Once back at home, John pursued what would be his true calling in life, cooking. He loved to cook and loved to feed people. He worked many years in various facets of cooking, from working the food line in fast food, up to being a general manager of various fast-food restaurants. John was introduced to friend of his sister, Angela Lee, and would go on to marry her. He would become a stepfather to Christopher Ellis and James Deere. John and Angela welcomed a son together, Cameron Walton, in 1997. John took great pride in his sons and loved them all dearly. One of John’s biggest concerns in life was leaving “his boys” without a father. He loved all aspects of being dad, especially becoming a grandfather. It was at the age of 39 that John was dealt the biggest blow medically. After a stint with a respiratory virus, John’s lungs were so diseased that he was unable to come off the ventilator. The decision was made by John’s sister to have a trach placed. John would eventually recover enough to allow him to come home on oxygen during the day. He would continue to put himself on the vent at night to allow his lungs to rest. This course of treatment allowed John to continue on for the last 15 years. Although oxygen dependent, John was still full of life. He loved his sons, his family, and his friends. John loved nothing more than a big Sunday dinner with his family or playing cards at The Landing with his friends. He took joy in all things Sci-Fi related. His favorite outing was a trip to the movie theater. He loved playing video games and would carry his gaming equipment with him whenever he went anywhere. In 2015, John traveled to Mexico with his sisters and their children. John would talk about this trip often. John lived life to the fullest up until his lungs simply couldn’t go on. John left this world on February 17th, 2022, at 8:10am at St. Luke’s Hospital. John is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Ray, his father, Henry Ray, his biological father John Walton, Sr, and his grandparents. John leaves to mourn him his sons, Cameron Walton, James Deere, and Christopher Ellis; his siblings Chris Cauthron (Diane), Deborah Shea, Gary Ray, Linda Baston (Cord), and Juanita Williams (Gil); nieces Amy Kirby (Tony), Marsadi Franklin, Justice Franklin, Alyssa Sukup, Kaylee Sukup, Melanie Cauthron, Kelly Ray, Chari Ray, Precious Ray, Kaylee Ray; nephews Kody Ray, Giovanni Franklin, Elijah Franklin, Zachary Cauthron, Sean Cauthron, Monto Cauthron Jr, Dustin Ray, and Taylor Ray; great nieces and great nephews, a host of young grandchildren, as well as a slew of friends who loved him like family.
